Taking stock

I think we are getting somewhere lately...
Somewhat at a two lolly-pop steps forward and one step back, kinda pace!

Keen eyes would have spotted in yesterday's post that underfloor heating has been installed in the two upstairs bathrooms. If I can get a crane here to lift the palettes of travertine off the driveway then I can order sand. Those floors can then be screed-ed and prepped for tiling! Yay!

Of course nothing much has gone to plan though. Our crane guy keeps cancelling
One of the recently installed dining room lights is 'crooked' and needs to be replaced
The dining room table saga continues; it was eventually delivered but with the wrong legs
David finds the new mattress too hot so we need to address that issue.
I finally ordered my dream, bone-inlay chest of drawers but it's out-of-stock
The fabric for an upholstered bed I wanted has been discontinued.
Ahhh. Life!

You may have also spotted in yesterday's pics some repair work to the upstairs hall area too. Unfortunately the dark colour we painted in this area showed up imperfect plastering joins. David is quite the perfectionist so sanded the area and re-skim coated the wall. Re-sealed, re-undercoated and re-painted too. One more coat to go... Whew!

I am soooo itching to get decorating and start living in this house!

Anywho, in amongst this I decided to unpack all the art work I have and take stock. This is as a result of being quite aghast that a key piece I'd anticipated in the hall, looks less than impressive in it's spot. No dusting is going to make this light box look better. Wenge + Grey =   #$@*%!!!

I really thought I could 'visualise' well. Obviously, I'm mistaken!
So before we finish painting I need to ensure the pieces I have, have a correct 'home'.
Some need framing so that's going to be my next project!
Then to work out what's going where!

The items in the above images (with the exception of the OFFS tea-towel) all require framing.

'Art History' silk scarf by Vuk Vidor. More info HERE
'Constellation - Explorer; Compass to The Southern Sky' Municipal Prints Company. Deets HERE
A new purchase: Archival Print 'Moby Dick' by Lisel Ashlock via Etsy
'Union Jack' wallpaper by Vivienne Westwood for The Rug Company. Info HERE

As do two David Bromley Quilts / Throws and a cheap Bali knock-off of some lass!

Not sure if I'll hang any of my own paintings. The colours are wrong and the big monochromatic piece has stagnated. Like wise, some favourite prints from previous properties are too 'beige' to work here.

Am unsure about the Marimekko fabric pieces as art...they'll be OK as 'fillers' if needed but I'm aiming higher now. The middle image below is a Rude Rider's Scarf which I'm considering framing for J's bedroom. ?

And I still need to find a location for my 3D pieces; skulls and Bamileke Headdress.

And Mirrors! Don't forget that collection! Eeek!

Glad it's a big house with lotsa walls!!!!

  1. Oh no, shame about the crooked light, what a pain! I hate that anti-climax too when something you think will look great on a wall/in a particular spot just looks not right once in position, so defeating. I'm sure you'll be able to work something out with all your pieces though, so many good things there to decorate with!

    1. Thanks Nat. Feeling a bit defeated ATM. I re looked at the post and thought what a bloody mish- mash it all is! If I won the lottery I'd be at the galleries in a flash! Any how, in good news the crane came this morning so we can get a crack-a-lacking with the bathroom screed. :-)

  2. Story of my life too - nothing is perfect! Ever. And things constantly go wrong. New coffee table is going back for repairs as it is splitting. "In stock" pool coping is in fact still on a boat from china, so pool has ground to a halt for the next month. Just feel like I'm constantly juggling and pushing to get things finished….
On the upside, I like your art choices, and know what you mean about beige or grey - not all neutrals match unfortunately!! Have you had a look at the new Hermes scarfs? I know they're expensive, but they're big, and there are some good ones for framing that would look stunning on the dark walls… xx

    1. Is it me getting older (and sounding like my Mum) or is the service / quality of goods becoming poorer? I've always followed the 'buy the best you can afford once, not buy cheap and replace 20 x' theory. Not working for me atm. We had the same external tile supply problem...in-stock meant a 5 month wait! How disappointing for you and the stunning table! Like your frustrations, mine are all solveable but I'm impatient after having alot of patience ... hope that makes sense! I LOVE the look of framed Hermes scarves but am yet to find one that I like enough to frame. I actually think they're very affordable art, comparative to large prints, hence my purchase of the Art History scarf ($99) which had a comparitive sized, unframed print selling at $550.

  3. When it rains it pours K-L, everything always seems to go wrong at once. Sometimes it really drags you down. I guess it all adds to the adventure.

    Hang in there lovely xo

    1. Yes Trish...that saying is very true here atm! The Juju headpiece I purchased is gorgeous...I unpacked it this week too and all the 'string' holding it together has deteriorated and snapped in many places! Eeek! Looks like I'm going to have to do some major repair / sewing work before it can be hung! Damn! I'm hangin in there....with gritted teeth and copious wine! LOL!

  4. That light is stunning. Shame it's crooked but easily fixed. What an interesting collection of artwork you have. It's such fun finding homes for it all. Love your dining room table too... Jx

    1. We bought the light from Beacon and their follow up service was extraordinary! The ordered a brand new fitting and organised for an electrician to come and swap over with the wonky one. Fantastic service! Still waiting on new legs for the table as I was sent the incorrect ones. Thanks for your kind comments Jess!
