Project update!

The Terrigal Project is in the last throes of completion. The robes have now been fitted...the  U-shaped main medroom WIR offering the greatest space challenge...

Whilst the two children's robe doors became a mix of painted-back glass and mirror. Not my choice, but the owners request. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would...and very practical too for this family who want to use the glass as a white-board with educational reminders.

The stone bench tops are installed in the kitchen (20 mm; no waterfall edge due to budget constraints) which also includes a study nook or the anticipated 'epicentre' of the home. Please forget those ugly holes in the wall...all data and phone points are now underbench! (Hello sparkey...What were you thinking!?)  Mirrored and painted-back glass splashbacks are still to come!

The stone countertops are Smartstone 'Botticino' (selected by client) and the flooring is solid Spotted Gum, secret nailed and to be satin finished. (Sample pic above RHS) The rear 'workhorse' bench is stainless steel and was installed today. Will post pic after site visit tomorrow!
Blinds are in a textured warm white coloured blockout fabric (below) and a mix of curtains and Plantation Shutters have also been ordered.

It is so very exciting to see months of planning coming together. A wee bit scarey too! Will post more pics as I can. Our hand-over to client date is looming; July 14.....Busy days hence the scarcity of posts!  Still reading yours though!

Bits & bobs...

Do you choose what you wear from habit? I have to confess that I do. My current favourite 'uniform' can be seen above; super comfy leggings, over sized knitted tunic, skull scarf and studded slippers
Easy- peasy!
I'm leaving the glam stuff to my Glamourzon nieces.  Below is a snap of Meggie at a recent photo shoot. Wow.

Poor old Davey's still not quite himself...

Where once he was all about Aussie surf and water sports he's now fashioning my skull scarf into a bandanna whilst fantasising about a Harley road trip on Route 66... Sacrilege!
He likes to 'work his look' back with Billabong fleece rather than leather jackets though. LOL!

We've been horrified by a local fire tragedy too. Eight attending Central Coast fire brigades were unable to save three business' from total obliteration, one which belonged to close friends. Many other premises in close proximity were affected too; the ramifications still being realised.
It is quite surreal looking at the devastation. There is nothing to salvage. Zip...

David and I took a trip to Sydney and collected our long awaited bedhead. (It was going to cost 50% of the purchase price for delivery!) We love it...and it looks great with this Sheridan bedlinen I picked up heavily discounted in Myer.

The nest escapees, S and M, are back this weekend to clean up their old bedroom, box  and sort it's remaining contents. Hopefully they are also going to find S' misplaced 21st present. A baguette diamond and white gold bracelet. She didn't take it with her in 'the move', so hopefully it will be unearthed tomorrow. Fingers & toes firmly crossed.

Martine Emdur's Magic...

"Seachange" as featured in the SMH November 8, 2003
I have been an avid admirer of Martine Emdur's mesmerising underwater paintings since I first saw them featured in an article in the Sydney Morning Herald on November 8, 2003.

'Voyeur V'
Unfortunately, owning an original is beyond our financial capabilities but I was made aware of the recent launch of Martine's range of limited edition fine art reproductions via Australian Fine Art Editions.

'Wonderland'
'Azure'
'Eclipse'
'Linger'
'Flux'
Aren't they stunning? Am still in awe!!!
..but..
I have finally recognised that I need to focus on getting actual walls before I buy more art to go on them. I may have also overheard the family whispering the word  'intervention.'  Yikes!
Hopefully, Ms Edmur will have an outstanding success with this release and do another down the track where I may be in a better position to purchase...
 *Sigh*

Happy Wedding Anniversary Mum & Dad!

Whilst J was off having fun at Supanova yesterday, David and I hung out with Nana and Grandad.

It was like,.... 'home'

Today they celebrate their 52nd Wedding Anniversary!

I remember trying on Mum's wedding dress when I first became engaged. I was 20 and there was no way that 24" waist dress would fit me!

But I don't think anything else has changed much in 52 years. (On second thought, Mum may no longer wear heels). They still love each other to bits and Dad's still a proud 'tea-pot'.

I was sick and missed celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary with them; where the more recent photographs were snapped.

I honestly don't know how to express my gratitude to these wonderful individuals. They are my parents; but by being themselves they have also become my go-to reference guide, friends, confidants, greatest inspiration and my only idols. And Dad's one hell of a 'fixer-uper-er'.  I am so very blessed.

I love you

Congratulations

"J, I am not your Father!"

Darth Vader explains the perils of the dark side....

J was treated to a trip to the 10th Anniversary Supanova Expo today by his big sister and her BF. Talk about boy heaven!
He spoke with Verne Troyer who played Mini Me in the Austin Powers movies and met Darth, Halo and Sponge Bob characters.

Mr Verne Troyer autographed his photo for J with 'J..., stay evil!'

He was selected to ask questions of two designers from Austin based production company Rooster Teeth, who were involved in the animation of the popular 'Halo' video games. (Which he aspires to play when he's 15!) S and M said he was very mature and asked great questions; he was up on stage with them and held the microphone....

They checked out all the latest Anime screenings and of course spent a small fortune on memorabilia.

J was gob-smacked by all the adults playing serious 'dress-ups'!

But the best bit?
J spending time hanging out with his (recently moved out) big sis and BF.
Priceless!

Project update....

The Terrigal Project is nearly at completion.....yah! The plastering is finished, painting underway and external rendering complete!

The spotted gum flooring is laid and tiling in the three bathrooms and laundry is complete. I really love the Mother-of-Pearl mosaics chosen for the guest powder room vanity niche. The sheen against the matt white 600 x 300 mm wall tiles is spectacular! (The vanity and mirrored cabinet above will create 'the niche' feature and will be lit by LED's from under the shaving cabinet)
 Hi Col!

I've been busy with wardrobe fit-out, carpet and window covering quotations lately....joinery, appliances and P.C's get installed this week and client handover is in a month!
Then the fun stuff really begins...decoration! Yee Ha!!!!

More Missoni Madness!

I desperately tried to get a pair of Missoni Havaianas last summer
(Blog post HERE).
Unfortunately I was not successful but, as luck would have it, the collaboration between a lustable design house and my favourite summer footwear brand continues so ... I have nabbed a pair now for when the skies are blue again...if ever!!! LOL!
I chose the neon number below....get in quick if you want a pair as 'the word' is that this is the finale of the collaboration. Boo Hoo!

The two other options available above.
Get your skates on....
(I got mine from HERE)

Full of joy here....

I've had a hankering for a neon sign for several years now but knew I wouldn't convince hubby that they have any merit in interior residential decorating until I found these images from Penny Farthing Design House. (A picture tells a thousand words)
I often have to 'show' a concrete picture of an idea to get him to him to 'see' it.
These pictures? Luv. Luv. Luv.
It took eight years to sway him with my skull idea though, so I'm not holding my breath!
The 'kiss me' is my fav!

The miserable and wet long weekend here saw lots of mooching about, snuggling in bed and movie watching. We were quite mesmerised by 'Hugo'....
We also found a permanent home for 'Bindi' (yes; he / she has been named), our Balinese Buffalo Skull.
Pictures to follow!

Exciting Arrivals!

I had an exciting delivery on Friday afternoon. Two items that I had purchased online arrived.
A rose gold Michael Kors watch from Nordstrom in the US and an Alexander McQueen skull scarf from NET-A-PORTER.

I've bought very few new clothes this winter. Nothing has really been drool worthy enough to buy and all the leggings / jeans I already own are the same as what's on offer in the shops. Updating my wardrobe with a few nice accessories makes more sense to me. And I'm still loving purchasing from the US. The Aussie dollar may have dipped but I still saved about $150 AUD on this watch by buying it this way. Always love a bargain!

Is it wet and miserable where you are?
It's perfect weather for snuggling on the lounge here!
Happy Sunday...Happy long weekend!

When is your home, not your home?

 This is my current dilemma.
Ordinarily, if I want changes made around la hacienda, I action them pronto.
Eldest daughter S and BF M have moved to Newtown, and with a 12 month lease, we could really utilise their bedroom - temporarily, to assist us in moving forward with the epic stalled build here.

It goes like this... J who's currently occupying the study, moves temporarily to S & M's room. The study gets a proper fix out and moves from its temporary space upstairs into its permanent abode. All of the remaining upstairs areas are now vacant so can be gyprocked, painted, fixed out and can accommodate appropriately, as per original plans. J moves to his proper room. S & M get their room back (for when they visit), we relocate to the master suite (we gain a guest bedroom / en suite in the process!) We also gain a second lounge room, full kitchen, dinning area and playroom / T.V space!

But....

S & M are not relinquishing their bedroom readily.
It has been vacant for 8 weeks; sadly cold and full of my daughter's detritus from her 22 years of life.
We are forbidden to enter, touch, bag or box its contents....
Um. W. T. ? Helloooo....?
To err on the side of compassion, empathy and understanding... I've given them three weeks notice.
Everyone gains from a happier mother and father, don't you think?

Dark Zoo

How stunning are these images by French photographer, Nicolas Evariste?
I've always loved black and white photography and this series, featuring a selection of beautiful zoo animals struck a chord with me after my recent 'safari' experience.

See more of his Dark Zoo collection HERE.
